PARK BENCHES -- A WORLDWIDE PICTURE GALLERY

by Ben Tsiter

An exciting (for us) feature on our site -- park benches -- from around the world.

We Dull Men don't mind traveling -- we don't even mind traveling to exciting cities so long as we can find dull things to do there. One of the first things we look for when arriving in a city is park benches. With nice benches, we can sit down and relax, watch the world go by, watch people trying to enjoy themselves doing in-and-trendy stuff. While we enjoy ourselves simply sitting on our bench.

New York City prides itself in being the World's Capital of many things . . . but did you know that it may well be the World's Capital of Park Benches? There are 8.500 park benches in Central Park alone . . . and more in other parks and locals in the city. Is there any city that comes even close to that number?

A Great Web Site –- “Views from Park Benches”

December 15, 2005

Dear DMC,

I must qualify for the DMC as I've produced a whole web-site on the subject of benches. Have a look at my web-site 'www.viewfromabench.co.uk' — perhaps you'd like to link to it from the DMC web-site. Let me know what you think?

Would you like to submit one of your benches (with a great view) to my site?

Dear Andrew,

Your web site is great. Truly great. You are bringing something to our attention we had not thought of. You are really “thinking out of the box.” Or perhaps better put: “thinking away from the bench.”

Up to now, we have been focusing on pictures of the bench. But you have added a dimension we missed: not only pictures of the bench, but also what can be seen from the bench. This brings home why we like to sit on park benches. Not just to sit, but also to watch. Watch the world going by — usually realizing how much stuff goes by out there that we don’t need to bother with.

Thank you for this wonderful contribution to how to enjoy life as a dull man.

We hope our members contribute many views from their benches to your web site.

Sincerely,

Ben Tsiter
Editor, DMC Park Benches Page
