Letter from Modesto Native
Date: 3/9/02
Dear Dull Men:
I have written you several times before. I appreciate your website, and your link to my slowly growing collection of airline peanut packets. I have found a few friends who are going to be flying in late March/Early April and expect for it to grow even further.I was especially proud to see your web page today and see your tribute to Modesto. I was born in Modesto. I was born at Memorial Hospital on Sylvan Road in that fair city. As a child I used to ride my bicycle along the city's canal banks. In my early teens my parents moved to Bakersfield. Bakersfield is not dull, it's boring (as specified in your FAQ). You may be interested to know that the worlds largest collection of Edsel cars is located in Modesto. Also, (and this may seem too executing), George Lucas' American Graffiti was inspired by his upbringing in Modesto. As a native of Modesto (now living in Arizona), I'd like to commend you on highlighting such a wonderful city. My parents (retired) are back there and I visit a few times a year.
Thanks,
Pat Highgate

Our Thoughts about Modesto
Gary Condit has been defeated. That’s good news and bad news.
The good news is that we no longer will be faced with those endless news reports about him. In his concession speech he said that he will never forget his years on capitol hill. Won’t many of us, however, like to forget those years? The bad news is that there won’t be any more TV broadcasts from Modesto. We liked those broadcasts . . . the shots showing parts of Modesto in the background. We like Modesto. We like its name. Translated from Spanish to English, it means modest. We like the city’s motto that appeared often in the broadcasts’ backgrounds -- "Water ● Wealth ● Contentment ● Health." That contentment is what we really like. Water, wealth, and health are nice too. But, even though the TV broadcasts will be gone, not all is lost. Modesto has a web site. Click here to keep in touch with the fine city. What you might especially like to see it the Flower Clock. Modesto is so thoughtful . . . they has a web cam aimed on it . . . click here to view Modesto’s Flower Clock. We don’t know of any other city that has done this. Modesto is truly unique. We were watching the clock via the cam while writing this. We could see the minute hand moving . . . it was exciting to see.
One last thing about Modesto. There are many canals in and around the city. Forget about traveling to Venice or Stockholm . . . go to Modesto . . . tour canals.
